Airbus A330 vs A340
The A330 and A340 share the same basic fuselage and cockpit, so their family resemblance is real. Engine count is the decisive first clue, followed by the centre landing gear on longer A340 variants.

What to look for
Count the engines
The A330 has two large under-wing engines. Every A340 has four smaller engines, two beneath each wing.
Landing gear
A340 variants carry an additional centreline landing-gear unit. The A330 uses its nose gear and two main wing-mounted bogies.
Do not use the cockpit
Their noses and cockpit windows are deliberately similar. Confirm the engine count before trying to judge fuselage length or wingtip details.
